ISSUES WITH THE REDONDO BEACH ROW

WEST SIDE OF ROW - South of Artesia, North of Grant. Back in July 2020, Shell Oil company was out on the Redondo north portion of the ROW for routine pipeline maintenance. Neighbors were told by the workers that the gas line pipes were old and brittle. That is a concern, but what ended up happening from the necessary digging for maintenance was a sinkhole that the crossed property line and damaged the infrastructure at the newer townhome complex next door. Attempts to fill the sinkhole at that time were unsuccessful. It went beyond 30’ deep of loose dirt and sand.

2 and 1/2 years later, in late December 2022, work was being done on the ROW side. Residents were told the it was to reinforce the sinkhole. Below is the result after a few days of rain. (Click on photos to expand, hover on image to see description.)

Ruxton Townhome GEOLOGY/SOILS REPORT 2021

Since Shell Pipeline Co , just doing due diligence on routine maintenance caused the sinkhole, they looked into repairing the damage, 2 & 1/2 years ago. At the time repair attempts were made, no amount of dirt could fill the 30’ deep sinkhole. A Geology/Soils study was performed and the result was loose sand, loose silt, alluvial deposits (loose sand in beach regions) and loose dirt. The report refers back to the 2017 DEIR with the same result found here: Galleria Project DEIR 2017. EAST SIDE OF ROW - South of Artesia, North of Grant. This is where actual reinforcement were attempted to mitigate erosion from rain storms that runs down the embankment causing problems for the single family homeowners below. Note erosion has already begun to compromise the packed down gravel/dirt berm that looks like was meant to work as a dam for running rain water. Some of the properties suffered substantial damage due to mudslides and oil spills from exposed and damaged pipelines. (Click on photos to expand, hover on image to see description.)

Daily Vibration on Redondo Beach Right Of Way due to passing train:

This video demonstrates the intense vibration experienced in my metal workshop by one round trip p/day passing freight train which is 30’ from the private residence. ROW alignment would move Freight even closer! No track material will make that go away. Add to that 192 daily passing commuter trains 20 hours p/day. This causes wear and tear in residential infrastructure. Cracks can be seen on cinder block walls and shattered pool plaster that needed replacement.
